Slow Hydraulic Car Lift? Common Problems and Solutions
News 12/01/2024
Alright, let’s talk about this hydraulic car lift thing. You know, the thing that lifts up them cars? Yeah, that one.
I ain’t no engineer, mind you, but I’ve seen these things work. It’s like this: they got this here pump, see? And this pump, it pushes oil into somethin’ called a cylinder. That cylinder’s got this thingamajig inside, a piston they call it. Well, when the oil goes in, it pushes that piston up, and that piston, it pushes the whole dang car lift up! It’s like magic, but it ain’t, it’s just oil doin’ its thing.
Now, to get the car back down, they just open somethin’ called a valve. That lets the oil flow back into its tank, or reservoir, or whatever fancy name they give it. And the car, well, it comes back down all by itself, gravity doin’ the work this time. Ain’t that somethin’? Heavy cars comin’ down easy peasy.
But, you know, nothin’s perfect. These here hydraulic lifts, they ain’t the fastest things around. They told me they can’t go faster than 150 feet in a minute. That’s still fast though, faster than my old bones can move, that’s for sure.
And another thing, that oil they use, it can get hot real quick if you’re usin’ the lift a lot. Guess that’s why they gotta be careful and not overwork the thing. Too hot ain’t good for nothin’.
I heard tell some folks put these lifts in their garages. Yeah, imagine that! Liftin’ your car up and down in your own garage! Must be nice for them city folk with their fancy garages. Out here we just park ‘em on the dirt, and they do just fine.
- Some companies, they even sell these lifts and help you fix up your whole garage, floors and all. I saw an ad once, Garage somethin’ or other, in Saint Louis. They seem like good folks. Probably charge an arm and a leg though.
- And then there’s them smaller lifts, like jacks, I think they call ’em. You use ’em to lift up just one part of the car, like when you gotta change a tire. Handy little things, those jacks. I’ve seen my boy use one to fix his beat-up truck. He’s always tinkerin’ with somethin’.
Speaking of fixin’ things, some of these lift companies been around forever. One company, they said they invented the in-ground lift a hundred years ago! That’s a long time, longer than I’ve been breathin’ air, that’s for sure. They must know what they’re doin’ if they been around that long. You don’t stay in business that long sellin’ junk.
Now, I don’t know much about buyin’ these things, but I hear tell you can find deals if you look around. Some places even give you free shippin’, whatever that means. Probably saves you a pretty penny, though, so it can’t hurt. Penny saved is a penny earned, that’s what my mama always said.
So, if you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ yourself a hydraulic car lift, do your homework. Make sure it’s a good one, and that it’ll do what you need it to do. And don’t go spendin’ all your hard-earned money on somethin’ you don’t need. That’s just plain foolishness. You work hard for your money, gotta spend it smart.
And remember, whether it’s a big lift for your garage or a little jack for changin’ a tire, it’s all about makin’ life a little bit easier. And ain’t nothin’ wrong with that, I tell ya. We all deserve a little easy now and then.
Well, that’s about all I know about these car lifts. Hope it helps you out some. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed the chickens.
