Is a Double Car Lift Right for You? Pros and Cons

News 12/09/2024

Hey there, y’all! Let me tell ya somethin’ about these double car lifts, you know, the things that hoist them cars up in the air. I ain’t no mechanic or fancy pants engineer, but I’ve seen a thing or two, and I can tell ya what’s what.

Now, these double car lifts, they ain’t all the same. Some got two big ol’ posts, like them strong arms holdin’ the car up high. They say these two-post fellas are the best for gettin’ under the car, you know, for fixin’ things or whatever.

You can stand right up under there, no problem. Folks say that’s real handy, and I reckon it is, ’cause who wants to be crawlin’ around on the ground like a varmint?

Them two-post lifts, they gotta be strong, real strong. They say the metal gotta be thick, like four or even six inches thick, dependin’ on how much weight it’s gotta hold.

I guess that makes sense, you don’t want no flimsy thing holdin’ up a ton of metal, that’s for sure. That’d be a disaster, wouldn’t it?

  • Two-post lifts: Good for gettin’ underneath the car.
  • Scissor lifts: Good for wheels, brakes, and makin’ the car sit higher so you ain’t gotta bend over so much.

Then there’s these other lifts, they call ’em scissor lifts. They ain’t like the two-post ones, they go up and down more like, well, like scissors, I guess.

They don’t lift the car up as high as the two-post ones, but they’re good for workin’ on the wheels or the brakes, stuff like that. And if you’re just cleanin’ the car or somethin’, they can make it sit higher so you don’t have to stoop down so much, which is nice for us old folks with bad backs, ya know?

Now, about them two-post lifts again. They say they’re mostly what you see in them big shops, where the fellas fix cars all day long. And they say they’re safe, mostly, but you gotta be careful.

You gotta put ’em together right and make sure you ain’t overloadin’ ’em with too much weight. If you don’t, well, that’s when things can go wrong. I heard stories, let me tell ya, about lifts fallin’ and cars gettin’ smashed. You don’t want that happenin’, no sir.

So, if you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ one of these double car lifts, you gotta do your homework. You gotta figure out what kinda lift you need, how much weight it needs to hold, and all that stuff. And you gotta make sure it’s put together right, by someone who knows what they’re doin’.

Don’t go tryin’ to do it yourself if you ain’t got a clue, that’s just askin’ for trouble.

And another thing, don’t go buyin’ no cheap junk neither. You get what you pay for, that’s what my pappy always said. If you want somethin’ that’s gonna last, you gotta spend a little extra money.

But it’ll be worth it in the long run, believe me. ‘Cause a good double car lift, well, that’s a real handy thing to have, whether you’re fixin’ cars or just tinkerin’ around in your garage.

So there you have it, just a little somethin’ I know about these double car lifts. Hope it helps ya out some. And remember, be safe out there, y’all! Don’t want nobody gettin’ hurt now, ya hear?

One more thing, these lifts ain’t light as a feather, they’re heavy. So when you are moving them or setting them up, get some help. Don’t try to be a hero and do it all by yourself.

And always, always, always read the instructions, even if you think you know what you are doing. It never hurts to double check and make sure everything is done just right.

Now, I’m done talkin’ about these lifts. Y’all go on now and do what you gotta do.

Safety first, remember that, and you’ll be just fine.
