Garage Doors for Car Lifts: Installation Tips and Tricks

News 12/08/2024

Alright, let’s talk about them garage doors, the ones you need for them car lifts. You know, the things that go up and down so you can stuff your car inside, or lift it up high like them fancy folks in the city. I ain’t no expert, mind you, but I’ve seen a thing or two.

First off, why you even gettin’ one of them car lifts? Well, lemme tell ya, it’s all about space, see? Space is gold, they say. If you ain’t got much of it, a car lift is a godsend. You can stack your cars, one on top of the other, like pancakes. Saves a whole lotta room, that’s for sure. So, if you’re thinkin’ ’bout a car lift, you gotta think ’bout the door too. Can’t have a fancy lift and a busted old door, can ya?

Now, when you’re puttin’ in a new garage door, it’s usually ’cause you’re buildin’ a new place or your old door’s gone to the dogs. Nothin’ lasts forever, that’s what I always say. If it’s a new build, well, you got a clean slate. You can put in anythin’ you want, long as it fits and does the job. If your old door is kaput, well, it’s time for a change anyway. Maybe you want somethin’ fancier, somethin’ that goes up and down smoother, or maybe just somethin’ that ain’t gonna fall on your head.

Now, some folks like to do things themselves, you know, the DIY type. They go and buy all the stuff and put it together like them puzzles my grandkids play with. It ain’t easy for everyone but bless their hearts, they get it done. It can be a good way to save a few bucks, I reckon. But if you ain’t handy, don’t even try it. You’ll just mess it up and end up spendin’ more money than you planned. You get what you pay for, they say.

So, you got your new door, or you’re fixin’ up the old one. What’s next? Well, you gotta make sure it works right with that car lift. You don’t want it bangin’ into the car, do ya? That ain’t good for the car or the door. You gotta make sure it’s high enough and wide enough for the cars. You want to measure the height of that car up in the air to make sure you have enough room. And make sure it’s strong enough too. Some of them doors, they ain’t worth a lick. They bend and buckle with just a little bit of wind. You want somethin’ sturdy, somethin’ that’ll last.

  • Measure twice, cut once, that’s what my old man used to say. And he was a smart fella. So, measure that door openin’, measure the height of your car on the lift, measure everything twice, just to be sure.
  • And don’t go buyin’ the cheapest thing you can find. You get what you pay for, remember? Spend a little extra and get somethin’ good. It’ll save you money in the long run.
  • And if you ain’t sure what you’re doin’, ask somebody. There’s plenty of folks out there who know more than you do. Don’t be too proud to ask for help.

Whether you are installing a new door or working on the old one you gotta make sure you do your research first. Look at different doors, different materials, different prices. Don’t just jump at the first thing you see. And read the instructions, if you’re doin’ it yourself. I know, I know, nobody likes readin’ instructions, but they’re there for a reason. They tell you how to put the thing together, how to make it work right. And if you still can’t figure it out, call somebody, like I said before. No shame in that.

And last but not least, keep it clean. A dirty door is a sad door. It don’t work as good, and it don’t look as good. So, give it a good wash every now and then, keep it oiled up, and it’ll last you a long time. A little bit of maintenance goes a long way.

So, there you have it. That’s all I know about garage doors and car lifts. It ain’t rocket science, but it ain’t nothin’ either. Just use your common sense, do your research, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. And you’ll have a garage door that’ll last you for years, and a car lift that’ll make you the envy of the neighborhood. Just remember, safety first, folks. Don’t want nobody gettin’ hurt.
